a spiked gingerbread white hot chocolate inspired by Krampus (2015)

Krampus is the 2015 holiday horror comedy directed by Michael Dougherty based on the christmas legend. Krampus is the demon that hunts people who have lost the Christmas spirit and takes them to hell in this version. In others, he kidnaps naughty children and does pretty much the same.

The film is star studded with Toni Collette, Adam Scott, David Koechner, and even Seth Green! It’s got obnoxious family, killer toys, monsters, and, most importantly around here, flaming murderous gingerbread men! The battle between the family and the toys and gingerbread men are probably the most memorable scenes for me. Truly captures Christmas consumerism kicking our asses with humor and horror.

Krampus should be a staple in any horror fan’s Christmas line up! It’s the perfect mess of truly terrifying creatures decimating any ounce of holiday cheer with the upmost camp! This drink was created for the Shaken Not Scared podcast! Make sure to stream their Krampus episode (and all others, obviously) for Eric and ViVi’s thoughtful and hilarious takes! They also create cocktails inspired by the films they discuss each week!

The majority of this film takes place during a snowstorm. I wanted the drink to be cozy and warm; something you’d want to defrost and cheer you up after being chased by an unseen shadowy monster! Recipe makes two!

YOU’LL NEED

  • 2 c. milk of choice
  • 4 oz Cinerator Hot Cinnamon Whiskey
  • 1/4 c. white chocolate syrup
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp clove
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • vanilla extract
  • whipped cream
  • gingerbread crumbles
  • pan + mug

TO MAKE (stove top)

  • add milk, spices, and white chocolate syrup to pan
  • stir to combine before turning on heat
  • turn on medium-low heat & warm until steaming (about 7 to 10mins) — do not boil
  • remove from heat and let cool for 3–5mins
  • add Cinerator & hot chocolate to mug
  • top with whipped cream & gingerbread crumbles
  • SERVE & ENOJY

NOTES:

  • as always adjust for taste — like some extra spice which is why the content is seemingly high
  • Cinerator is a really smooth cinnamon whiskey thats a bit sweeter than Fireball
  • you can also combine the spices and vanilla extract with the white chocolate sauce before adding to the pan for better incorporation
